Capturing the Quiet Moments: The Beauty of feeding Photography

As a photographer, my greatest passion lies in capturing people — not just in their biggest, most celebrated moments, but also in the quiet, everyday ones. While I absolutely love photographing weddings — those magical, joy-filled days surrounded by love and family — there’s something equally powerful in the stillness of a moment shared between a mother and her baby.

Recently, I had the absolute honour of photographing Paige, a beautiful mama I’ve had the privilege of journeying with for years — from bump to baby, and soon, to her wedding day. This time, we stepped into a quiet local park where Paige breastfed her gorgeous daughter, and I captured the moment in all its tenderness and truth.

It wasn’t posed. It wasn’t polished. It was raw, calm, emotional — and so incredibly beautiful.

As a mum myself, I know how fast time flies. One minute you’re cradling a tiny newborn in your arms, and the next, you’re wondering how they’ve outgrown those arms entirely. I often think back and ask myself, Did I capture every tiny moment? I know I tried. But somehow, it still never seems like enough. The ache of your children growing up is a feeling I never anticipated — it’s overwhelming and profound. They aren’t being lost, just becoming more themselves.

That’s parenthood, isn’t it?

During our shoot, Paige and I shared a conversation about feeding our babies. We both struggled with breastfeeding our first and found it a little easier the second time around. We shared the pride and emotion of being able to nourish our babies, but also the deep understanding that every feeding journey is different — and all of them are beautiful, whether by breast or by bottle.

This shoot reminded me how deeply meaningful those feeding moments are. They're often quiet, done in the early hours, or nestled on the sofa, unnoticed by the world — but they are full of love, connection, and strength. They deserve to be remembered.

That’s why I’m now offering feeding photo sessions — gentle, natural, outdoor or in-home shoots where parents can preserve this incredible chapter of their journey. These sessions are not just about the act of feeding — they’re about honouring the bond, the effort, the emotion, and the calm beauty in those shared moments.

Whether your feeding journey was short or long, easy or challenging, breast or bottle — I’d love to help you capture it. Because one day, you’ll look back and be so grateful you did.

If this speaks to you, or someone you love, I’d be honoured to talk more about how we can create a session that feels just right.

With love, Mel x
