As a wedding photographer in Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset, I get to capture so many incredible celebrations – but C & E’s wedding in June 2025 at Cliff House, Salcombe, followed by a reception at The Barn, South Milton, was truly unforgettable. With views across the Salcombe estuary, heartfelt personal touches, and a surprise Irish dance to end the night, their day was everything a coastal wedding should be: relaxed, joyful, and full of character.
Bridal Prep at Cliff House
Charlotte began her morning at Cliff House in Salcombe, a historic venue with panoramic views across the water. Her hair was styled by Gemma Ryder, and the beautiful seasonal flowers by South Milton Flower Farm perfectly reflected the couple’s grey and blue colour scheme. As a Devon wedding photographer, I love capturing these quiet, intimate moments – the anticipation, the final details, and those emotional little glances that set the scene for the day.
A Ceremony with a View
The ceremony took place in the bright and airy space at Cliff House, where floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the water. With thoughtful readings and carefully chosen music, the atmosphere was personal and emotional. In the couple’s own words:
“Although we were nervous, it was really special to have all of our friends and family around, the calm before the party… the readings and the music were all unique to us.”

Drinks on the Terrace & A Surprise Boat Trip
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks on the Cliff House terrace, accompanied by live music from Ollie Stephens, The Devon Wedding Singer. Meanwhile, the newlyweds slipped away for a surprise: a boat trip along the Salcombe estuary with Charlotte’s dad, on the very boat he had lovingly restored (and named after her!).
From the water, they waved back at their guests on the terrace – a truly magical moment that no one will forget.
Arriving at The Barn, South Milton
After the boat trip, the celebrations continued at The Barn, South Milton, another gem of a Devon wedding venue. The couple arrived in style, driving into the grounds with classic tin cans tied to the back of their car, greeted with cheers and laughter from their guests.
The Barn was the perfect setting for a relaxed countryside reception: long tables filled with friends and family, heartfelt speeches, and a delicious meal before the evening party began.
The Barn at South Milton – Reception Setup
Stepping into The Barn at South Milton, guests were greeted with a warm, rustic atmosphere lit by hundreds of fairy lights strung across the beams, giving the whole space a soft golden glow. The long wooden tables were styled simply yet beautifully with flowing runners, elegant tapered candles, and terracotta pots overflowing with herbs and greenery – a natural nod to the couple’s relaxed coastal theme in shades of grey and blue.
At the top table, a particularly meaningful touch stood out: a candle originally from Charlotte’s grandmother’s own wedding. Before guests entered the room, Charlotte and Eddie lit it together – a heartfelt way of weaving family history into their celebration.
Adding to the charm, the couple created a unique seating board using string and pins, a personal and playful detail that had everyone smiling as they found their places. The barn’s layout, with its wide open dining space and adjoining area for dancing, gave the perfect flow to the evening – from heartfelt speeches to a feast with family and friends, and finally a night full of music and dancing.
Dancing, Music & A Surprise Performance
The evening kicked off with dancing and a big surprise from Charlotte – an incredible Irish dance performance she had kept secret from nearly everyone.
“I last properly danced in front of my family 15 years ago… I was very nervous but I’m so glad I did it!”
The dance floor then filled with energy as everyone joined in for a ceilidh, with plenty of laughter, spinning, and fun. It was the perfect way to get all generations up and celebrating together.

“Focus on the touches that feel personal to you rather than what just looks good on Instagram. Find suppliers you get on with and trust them – they’ve done more weddings than you have! It really is the best day of your life.”
